A weekend in Austin

I always thought that it is not the place but good company that makes exploring a new city fun, but I was wrong. Austin has a lot to offer to visitors, and this list is the tip of the iceberg. From fun locales to the numerous events going on year round, it is an interesting city to wander through. I can't wait to go back.

Casey's New Orleans Snowballs

In Venezuela, there used to be carts with huge chunk of ice. The carts would park right outside schools around 3, the time when most children were let out. All of them will beg their parents to get them a snow cone, me included. They were cheap and you only had 3 flavors to choose from, so most kids got one. Most importantly, you would get a drizzle of condense milk right on top. Austin is known for having plenty of choice where to indulge with the ice treat in flavors to suit your mood. Casey's is one of the only places that has the very important final touch of condense milk at top.

The Continental Club

Live free shows in Austin are very common, almost a way of life. Being a college town, it is hard to get away from your typical college bar filled with rowdy drunk teens with venues coated in beer from all previous shows. This locale offers live music away from the unruly crowd.

The Salt Lick

I am not an expert on BBQ, but this one was pretty darn good. They have several locations now, including in the Airport. For the best tastiest, you want to go to their original locations - - 18300 Farm to Market Rd 1826, Driftwood, TX 78619 - 3350 E Palm Valley Blvd Round Rock, TX 78665

Live Love Paddle

Within a one-story shopping center, across from a residential urbanization, there is a Kayak and boat equipment store. At first, you don't know if you are at the right place, the store is best visible from the parking lot than the main road. You pay at the shop at the end of your trip, but first you must make your way across the parking lot, through the concrete promenade with greenery that takes you down to the water, the destination is a little hut attended by college kids that will outfit you with the equipment of your choice for the adventure. There are plenty of boats and people in kayaks and paddle boards, and the view is lush green with Austin in the background. The prices are reasonable for an overall good time. A word of advise, go in the water on swimsuit only, otherwise you will be riding back to town with a wet butt.

Easy Tiger - Beer

Garden

Everybody that knows me well, knows that beer is not my poison of choice. Nevertheless, there are nice memories in the beer gardens of Stuttgart, and so beer gardens will always hold a special place in my heart. Austin has a few beer gardens in the city. This one is located adjacent to the Garden Inn Hilton Hotel on a shaded path next to a canal. This gives the area a cooler micro-climate, different to typical sizzling Austin.
